A Closer Look at White Hall

Originally built by General Green Clay in the late 1700s, White Hall was later expanded and transformed under the direction of his son, Cassius Marcellus Clay—a U.S. Minister to Russia, close ally of Abraham Lincoln, and passionate abolitionist.

White Hall stood as a center of anti-slavery efforts in Kentucky, offering refuge as part of the Underground Railroad. Touring the house today, you can feel the legacy of bravery and idealism embedded in its walls. The Italianate mansion, complete with restored period furnishings, showcases the lifestyle of a man who challenged the norms of his time.
