Entry 66: Wandering Into Little Rock: Bill Clark Wetlands & A Brush with Nature

We got a wild hair the other day and wandered into the big city! Our first stop was the William E. “Bill” Clark Presidential Park Wetlands—a hidden gem tucked along the banks of the Arkansas River, right next to the Clinton Presidential Library in downtown Little Rock.

This 13-acre restoration project is more than a scenic stroll—it’s a dynamic urban habitat teeming with life. Birds, turtles, frogs, native plants—you name it. Whether you’re a local or just exploring the capital city, this peaceful pocket of nature offers an unexpected escape amid the skyline.

What’s the Story?

The wetlands were brought to life through a collaborative effort between the City of Little Rock, Audubon Arkansas, and other conservation-minded partners. It’s a space designed to educate, inspire, and connect people to the vital role wetlands play in urban ecosystems.

Named for William E. “Bill” Clark, a beloved Arkansas conservationist and builder of the Clinton Presidential Library, the wetlands honor his passion for the outdoors and lifelong commitment to the state. His legacy lives on through this sanctuary that bridges urban innovation and environmental stewardship.
